The Samsung INR21700-50E is an energy-oriented 21700 lithium-ion cell with at least 4900mAh standard discharge capacity and approximately 17.64Wh of calculated nominal energy. It supports 9.8A continuous discharge, a defined 500-cycle capacity criterion and operation across practical pack-level temperature ranges, making it suitable for professionally engineered mobility, industrial and energy-storage battery systems.
Samsung specifies at least 4900mAh when discharged at 0.98A and 23°C to the 2.50V cutoff. Rated capacity is at least 4753mAh under a higher 4.9A discharge test. Keeping these capacity grades separate provides a more accurate basis for pack runtime calculations, cell acceptance and application matching.
The combination of 3.6V nominal voltage and 4.9Ah standard capacity provides approximately 17.64Wh of calculated nominal energy. This supports energy-focused battery systems requiring useful runtime within the compact 21700 cylindrical format, while final pack energy should account for operating voltage, cutoff settings, temperature, load and conversion losses.
The maximum continuous-discharge current is 9.8A. A separate 14.7A non-continuous value is provided, but the specification does not define its duration, rest interval or duty cycle. Pack designers should therefore base continuous loading on 9.8A and obtain Samsung SDI confirmation before applying the higher non-continuous current.
Standard charging uses 2.45A CC-CV charging to 4.20V, terminating at 98mA under the capacity-test condition. Samsung lists 4.9A as the maximum charge current but explicitly excludes it from cycle-life use. Precision voltage control, charge timing, balancing and temperature monitoring are required in the completed battery system.
After 500 cycles, capacity must remain at least 3802mAh, equal to 80% of the 4753mAh rated capacity. The test uses 2.45A charging with a 245mA termination current and 4.9A discharging to 2.50V at room temperature. Actual service life depends on load, temperature, charging and storage conditions.
The detailed drawing specifies a sleeved-cell envelope up to 21.25mm in diameter and 70.80mm in height, with maximum weight of 69g. Samsung requires cell-level voltage monitoring, overtemperature and overcurrent warnings, secondary protection, mechanical shock control and spacing above 1mm. Terminal connections should be welded rather than directly soldered.
Custom battery pack applications: Subject to engineering validation, the Samsung INR21700-50E can support e-bikes, e-scooters, portable industrial equipment, moderate-power tools, backup-power products and energy-storage modules. MisenBattery supplies Samsung cells and supports custom pack integration with a suitable BMS, fuse, welded interconnects, temperature sensing, electrical insulation, cell spacing, and application-specific thermal and mechanical design. Supporting CE, UN38.3, RoHS and UL documentation can be provided when available for the applicable cell, completed battery pack and shipment.
