The INR21700-RS40 is a high-power 21700 rechargeable lithium-ion cell with a 3.6V nominal voltage, minimum 4000mAh capacity and 70A maximum continuous discharge rating. Its combination of high-current output, rapid charging options, low specified AC resistance and verified cycle-life profiles makes it suitable for professionally engineered battery packs requiring strong power delivery in a compact cylindrical format.
The RS40 provides a minimum standard discharge capacity of 4000mAh at 0.8A and 25±3°C. Combined with its 3.6V nominal voltage, this equals approximately 14.4Wh of calculated nominal energy per cell, balancing usable runtime with the current capability required by compact high-output battery systems.
With maximum sleeved dimensions of 21.25mm in diameter and 70.35mm in height, the cylindrical cell fits established 21700 pack architectures. Its specified weight is no more than 67g, supporting compact multi-cell layouts while leaving pack designers responsible for cell spacing, dimensional tolerance, secure fixing and mechanical protection.
The manufacturer specifies a maximum continuous discharge current of 70A with an 80°C cell-temperature cut-off. Under the documented rate test, relative capacity remains at least 95% at 40A, 90% at 50A, 60% at 60A and 50% at 70A, demonstrating the thermal and capacity tradeoffs at extreme current.
Charging options include a 2A standard profile, an 8A rate-charge profile and up to 14A continuous charging under permitted temperature conditions. A separate protected step-charge test reaches 3.2Ah, equivalent to 80% SOC, in ten minutes using staged 8A, 24A, 18A and 8A currents with voltage and temperature protection.
Specified AC resistance is no more than 4.0mΩ when measured at 1kHz. Ambient operating ranges extend from -20°C to 45°C for charging and -40°C to 60°C for discharge. Low-temperature charging requires substantial current derating, while pack-level temperature sensing must enforce the applicable surface-temperature and recovery limits.
High-power profiles retain at least 80% capacity after 500 cycles using either 8A charge and 40A discharge or 14A charge and 30A discharge. Under 90% DOD conditions with 4.15V and 3.0V limits, the specification documents at least 80% retention after 1000 cycles at 8A/10A or 1500 cycles at 2A/4A.
